Background:
I have around 20 DVD's of Sesame Street because we do not get it overseas where we live. I purchased this because it was ALL music and it reminded me of the songs I sang in Music class when I was a child in Missouri.Boy, was I not disappointed!! Also, I appreciate how Sesame Street brings diverse cultures to the fore without being biased or showing an agenda. We can live in another country and still expose our child to different aspects of America. This DVD does not disappoint in any way.
Overall:
This DVD is engaging for my son (17 months) who dances to EVERY song because it so peppy. Elmo is having a playdate with his Cousin-Elmer- from the country who loves Country music and uses his play date to have a "Rootin' Tootin' Hootin' Hollerin' Country Jamboree" with Elmo. By the time it is over Elmo loves country Music and adopts it as his own.
The scenes:
It begins with going through the different instruments specific to Country Music (banjo, harmonica, fiddle) and songs that use those instruments. Then it moves on cultural things like- tall tales, square dancing. Interspersed are special appearances by Alison Krauss, Sugarland, Johnny Cash and LeeAnn Womack. It has favorite songs like Oh Suzannah, Skip to my loo, Hi Ho Cheerio, Home Home on the Range and so many more new compilations based on traditional songs.
