Editorial Reviews

Just how many miles are on the Mystery Machine? In this produced-for-video feature, the vintage van is headed for Mexico, where Fred has been invited to meet his e-mail pal. Daphne, Velma (looking forward to the art, museums, and pyramids), and Shaggy, and "Scoob" (looking forward to the "non-stop eating") are along for the ride, of course. Fred is told that the rainy season is over, but when the Mystery, Inc. gang is around, ferocious mythical beasts and panicked tours of ancient tombs are never out of season. El Chupacabra, a hulking, green-glowing "Bigfoot wannabe" is terrorizing the tourists, but leave it to "those meddling kids" to unmask the villains in time-honored fashion. Slicker animation will captivate a new generation of Scooby fans, while old school Generation-Scoobers will feel right at home with this adventure that deviates not one step from the 35-year-old formula. Donald Liebenson, Barnes & Noble
