Editorial Reviews

Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) might be dead, but his traps live on in this fifth Saw entry, which finds the series' production designer David Hackl at the helm for his debut directing gig. Costas Mandylor reprises his role as Hoffman, the detective whose involvement in the string of grisly murders turns out to be more than meets the eye. Picking up where the fourth entry left off, Hoffman is revealed to be a hidden accomplice in Jigsaw's grisly games of death, which look to be continued by the lawman. The plot bounces back and forth from the beginning of their relationship to the present, as Agent Strahm (Scott Patterson) delves farther into the case. Also in the cast are Dexter's Julie Benz and One Missed Call's Meagan Good as victims of another one of Jigsaw's lessons in morality. Saw IV scribes Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan return to pen the screenplay for the Twisted Pictures/Lionsgate co-production. Jeremy Wheeler, All Movie Guide

April 13, 2009: And to think, this franchise has Saw 6 in the works.....it better be better than this one. If you're a die-hard Saw fan, fine...rent the movie or perhaps buy it.....but wait till the price goes WAY down before you do it. This wasn't really that good. I was a little disappointed to say the least.

This review was written about the Blu-ray Wide Screen / DTS edition.

February 17, 2009: Thank god for red box 1$ movies cause if i spent anything more i would really be upset. this was such a waste of time, action was not even that good, acting was beyond crap and the plot was just ridiculous. there was some good scenes but it wasnt as good as the first or even the 3rd one. they really are just beating a dead horse here.. you know there is going to be a 6th 7th 8th one sooner or later.. if so i hope this guy doesnt direct it... the "traps" were not really that inventive ooo exploading nails in every room.. ok whatever, break glaxs find a key and match it... oo thats scary... better yet hack off your whole hand and live to tell about it... i dont hink so.. but whatever its entertainment... rent the first one, the orig one that was sick, crazy and something new... after the 3rd one just dont bother.
