On a lush, mossy foundation somewhere between Enya, Sarah MacLachlan classical divahood, and Broadway rests the operatic voice and mystical style of English chanteuse Sarah Brightman. In this program, the former wife of Andrew Lloyd Webber transforms Sun City, South Africa, into a tranquil paradise, as she strikes dramatic poses behind a darkly lit backdrop and performs a collection of songs that range from highly stylized contemporary pop numbers to opera to show tunes. Belting tracks from her 1998 smash Eden, Brightman mixes in an angelic rendition of Queen's "Who Wants to Live Forever" before shifting to arias highlighted by "Nessun Dorma," and then into an oceanic sequence capped by "Il Mio Cuore Va" (a version of Titanic's "My Heart Will Go On," sung in Italian). Following a few tunes from Phantom of the Opera, Brightman closes her performance with the Bocelli standard "Time to Say Goodbye."Although the stylistic shifts are not always smooth (something always seems wrong when she sings Kansas' "Dust in the Wind"), there's no disputing the beauty and range of her porcelain pipes.
