New RUSH mixed with Classic RUSHby EJE

February 09, 2009: I?ll admit I?m one of the very few RUSH fans that have never seen them live, which is ironic considering I would rather listen to their live portfolio rather than the studio work, so having this DVD was a must buy for me. I?m glad I did, it?s entertaining and the music delivers!

There are plenty of extra visuals in this DVD set. The opening spoof of Alex Lifeson?s spinning head painted a shade of green, wrapped in a turban only to pause to ask the viewer (in a bad Indian dialect) to make a audio selection I found to a be a nuisance. However disk one does offer some other video spoofs made by the band that are pretty funny and make up for it. Alex it turns out is quite the entertainer even when he doesn?t have a guitar in his hands.

The music of course delivers classic RUSH and plenty from their last release (S&A). There?s a great version of ?Digital Man? and ?Circumstances? as well the standards ?Tom Sawyer?, ?Red Barchetta? (how many more times do they need to record these songs live? I don?t get it). The music from Snakes and Arrows however once again proves that this band is timeless and can still create great music after 30 years together.

I know that this may sound silly, but I couldn?t get over the tee shirt Geddy selected to wear for the concert. It reads ?BLAH BLAH BLAH?. It?s just odd. Neil Peart of course delivers another one of his drum solos but there is a portion of the solo where the drums deliver a electronic sound of which I don?t care for at all (techno!). However, Neil actually does force a smile during the concert which is a bit surprising.

Overall the DVD is a great buy. It delivers superb sound and visuals and is a must for any RUSH fan, new or old.

January 10, 2009: There is nothing better than rush live! A great performance from a great tour. I have r30 and rush in rio and never get tired of seeing them live. An always interesting playlist makes me want to keep seeing them. The extra songs from the added leg of the tour is a nice touch. A great band at the top of their game!
