Rookie of the Year is a light-hearted comedy about a 12-year-old baseball fan who, despite his love for the sport, can't play the game at all. During one Little League contest, he breaks his arm. After it heals, it miraculously becomes a super-human arm that can out-pitch any player in the major leagues. The boy joins the Chicago Cubs and helps lead them to the World Series. Though the plot is silly and contrived, it's a pleasant film that is ideal for young sports fans. Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Movie Guide

October 17, 2008: How believable is this movie suppose to be? Ok so kid breaks his arm and like presto change-o he can throw 100 mph? I'm surprised kids aren't throwing themselves off buildings to get more break on their curveball. Plus aren't there like child labor laws or something that they have to deal with? And what was this mom thinking leaving Gary Busey in charge of her child? I mean seriously. Other than that it was an awesome and well worth the hour and half of my time. John Candy does impressive job as overweight sportscaster what a stretch.
