    Editorial Reviews

This acclaimed British series adds a bit of sorcery and mysticism to the swordplay and social justice that make the Robin Hood legend so enduring. Heading up the superb ensemble cast are Michael Praed as Robin of Loxley, Ray Winstone as seething-mad Scarlet, and Nickolas Grace as the greedy, conniving sheriff of Nottingham. In the final 13 episodes, Robert of Huntingdon (Jason Connery, son of Sean) assumes Robin's mantle. Shot entirely on location in England, the series also features an award-winning score by the Irish band Clannad. Robin of Sherwood ran on Britain's ITV from 1984-86. All 26 episodes are collected on this set, and it also includes over 17 hours of special features, such as commentary, featurettes, outtakes, and more. From the Studio

August 03, 2008: Perhaps the single best incarnation of Robin Hood I have ever seen. The mystical aspect is an awesome addition to the legend that combines very well the series more realistic and grittier portrayl of medevial times. The show has a great cast, direction, and music. There is a casting change for Robin during the last season but this is organically written into the series via Robin of Loxley's own story ending and Robert of Huntington being chosen to assume the mantle of the Hooded Man. Both names can be found in actual Robin Hood folklore dating all the way back to the Howard Pyle stories.
