Fans of this bizarre BBC-2 sci-fi classic were pleasantly surprised by its return for a seventh series in 1997, considering that Series VI ended in 1993 on a cliffhanger! Luckily, it seems the death of the crew was exaggerated, and Lister (Craig Charles), Rimmer (Chris Barrie, in reduced appearances this season), The Cat (Danny John-Jules), Kryten (Robert Llewellyn), and Holly (Hattie Hayridge) return for more adventures aboard the intergalactic mining ship Red Dwarf, with Chloe Annett joining the crew as Kristine Kochanski. Series VII plots were less sci-fi-heavy than prior runs, perhaps a byproduct of co-creator/writer Rob Grant’s departure, which left his partner Doug Naylor fully in charge. Included in this season are the episodes: "Tikka to Ride"; "Stoke Me a Clipper"; "Ouroboros"; "Duct Soup"; "Blue"; "Beyond a Joke"; "Epideme"; and "Nanarchy." And as with other Red Dwarf DVD releases, this one has plenty of bonus content, such as commentaries, behind-the-scenes featurettes, deleted scenes, and a gag reel. Christina Urban, Barnes & Noble
