Series 1
When evolutionary zoologist Nick Cutter (Douglas Henshall) discovers prehistoric creatures alive and well in the present day, the natural world is turned on its head and humanity faces a threat to its very existence. Unexplained anomalies are ripping holes in the fabric of time, allowing creatures from the very earliest stages of Earth's development to roam the modern world. Cutter and his team struggle to keep the looming disaster secret while dealing with savage dinosaurs and other deadly foes. Cutter also has to deal with a deeply personal dilemma - he discovers that his missing wife Helen (Juliet Aubrey), believed dead for eight years, has actually been travelling in the past; now she is back with possible answers to the riddle of the anomalies, but is it an answer she is willing to share? Primeval combines dazzling special effects with a haunting love story, and asks a terrifying question: has mankind come to the end of the evolutionary road?

Series 2
Get ready for more monsters, more action, more thrills and more adventure! Evolutionary zoologist Nick Cutter and his team are back to do battle with more savage dinosaurs and other deadly foes, as unexplained anomalies continue to rip through the fabric of time, causing havoc in the present day. Claudia (Lucy Brown) reappears, looking exactly the same, but with no memory of the past, or Nick. It seems he altered the present when he went back in time, but how? And now, bizarre creatures from the future are materialising too. Connor (Andrew Lee Potts) still has a penchant for Abby (Hannah Spearritt), but will they ever get it together? Meanwhile Helen is acting suspiciously, and Stephen (James Murray) doesn't know whom to trust. One thing's for sure, there is definitely a traitor in their midst. From the Studio

February 12, 2009: What a great series! In Great Britain, a series of anomalies are appearing, allowing ingress and egress of animals from the different geological time periods of the past and future. Professor Nick Cutter leads a team of scientists and government agents on a series of missions to deal with these anomalies and the creatures that emerge from them to wreak havoc on civilization. Add into this some intrigues surrounding the disappearance and resurfacing of Dr. Hellen Cutter-Nick's wife, and you have an X-Files meets Jurassic Park type of situation.
I like how other types of prehistoric animals are featured, with emphasis on late Permian ere animals rather than just dinosaurs. Some familiar and unfamiliar beasts are on the prowl here from the legendary Smilodon (the sabre-tooth cat), to mosasaurs (seagoing lizards of the Cretaceous), to fearsome gorgonopsids (a mammal-like reptile resembling a tiger with a t-rex like head) to the malevolent "future predator", and even other theoretical creatures like those Precambrian sulfur dioxide breathing worms. All represent the latest scientific knowledge gleaned from the fossil record as well as the possibilities that may exist in our evolutionary future. Not to worry dinosaur fans, the most vicious (and intelligent) of that group of archosaurs is represented here and are a scary as thier cousins in Jurassic Park.
There are some humorous moments and some cautionary undertones about how changes in the past can affect the present. Human greed rears its ugly visage here too. Overall, a likable cast, great sp/fx from the Walking With Dinosaurs producers, and the fact that unlike our tv shows "across the pond", this is only 13 episodes. This eliminates boring filler episodes that are made to meet the weekly deadlines. The result, high quality entertainment that has not been seen in quite some time. Due to some scary images, action violence, and non-nude sexually suggestive situations this might get the equivalent of a PG-13 rating. A

February 09, 2009: Primeval kept me intellectually engaged and emotionally gripped from firm frame to last. The Box Set covers the first two seasons, and what the characters go through, particularly the main character, is very powerful. With great special effects, characters, plots, and music, this series is an overall winner. It went too fast!
