Editorial Reviews

How comforting to return to the Hundred Acre Wood, where friends come in all shapes, sizes, and species. This charming animated feature introduces an adorable new character to Disney's enduring franchise based on A. A. Milne's beloved books: the Heffalump. This mythical, elephantine creature, long dreaded by Winnie the Pooh and company, reveals himself to brave Roo as playful and friendly (and you know what they say: Heffalump is better than none). Roo discovers that "Lumpy" (voiced with a British accent and contagious laugh by Kyle Stanger), whose capture is the goal of a comically ill-fated "expotition," is just as scared of the Hundred Acre Wood crowd as they are of him, especially "the stripey thing that bounces" (Tigger), "the little pink monster that squeals" (Piglet), and "the loud thing with long ears who yells at everybody" (Rabbit). Roo reassures him that all are okay "once you get to know them." But can he convince Pooh and company? At a mere 68 minutes, Pooh's Heffalump Movie briskly bounces along. The youngest viewers will identify with Roo, who is initially told he is too young to go on an adventure so fraught with danger (and, emphasizes Tigger, "you can't argue with a word like 'fraught' ") but who carries the movie's "getting to know you" message of tolerance and making friends with those who are different than you. Lumpy is "just like us," Roo pleads. With its traditional animation, Carly Simon's dreamy and playful songs, and beloved characters, Pooh's Heffalump Movie is, to quote Pooh, "nice and summery" and "warm as a blanket." June 01, 2005: This is a great movie for toddlers as well as my generation. The music just alone, was great. My grandaughter wanted to see it over and over again. It is one of a few movies I don't get tired of when she does.
