Editorial Reviews

A handful of scientists struggle to prevent the destruction of a small town -- and possibly the entire country -- in this suspense drama. In the mid-1960s, a deadly virus is discovered in Zaire that wipes out an entire village in 24 hours. Government researchers are brought in to investigate, but the military opts to destroy the village rather than risk further infection. Thirty years later, Sam Daniels (Dustin Hoffman), an expert on contagious diseases, is called in when the virus re-emerges in Africa. A monkey carrying the bug is smuggled into the U.S., and a suburban California town soon begins to succumb to the illness. Sam scrambles to find an antidote with the help of his ex-wife Robby (Rene Russo), a Center for Disease Control researcher, and their colleague Casey (Kevin Spacey), while Gen. McClintock (Donald Sutherland) has his own reasons for wanting to use bombs to contain the epidemic, and Army surgeon Gen. Ford (Morgan Freeman) is caught in the middle. Outbreak was produced in the hopes of beating the film version of Richard Preston's bestseller The Hot Zone (about a real-life epidemic) into theaters; script problems shelved The Hot Zone, and Outbreak had the infectious disease market to itself. May 09, 2005: There is an extremely dangerous airborne virus killing the population of a small California town. While the army is trying to isolate the town, an army doctor, played by Dustin Hoffman, and his crew including Rene Russo, and Cuba Gooding Jr., are searching for a cure. They will eventually discover that this virus is not unknown to some people in the military. The bad thing is that these people holding a powerful position in the military, including roles played by Morgan Freeman and Donald Sutherland, would prefer to wipe out the town rather than to help find out how this plague has entered the country. A monkey that is carrying the virus was captured for research in Africa and taken to the United States, which is the way the virus came into this country. The reason the virus spread so quickly is because one of the employees stole the monkey to sell to a pet store and set him free. This enabled him, the monkey, to run rampant coming in contact with several people who then came in contact with others causing an epidemic. Outbreak is a sci-fi action thriller movie that came out in the year 1995 directed by Wolfgang Peterson. This movie was suspenseful with a little bit of everything. The movie is rated R for language because it has occasional profanity. It has a mix of action, humor & horror. After watching the movie, it really makes you think about this actually happening because it is possible. You realize how things easily take a turn for the worst because of one person not knowing the consequences of their actions. Overall it’s a good movie, I’d give it a 9 on a scale from 1-10.

May 04, 2005: Outbreak focuses on a deadly Virus, which is transported into the U.S. by a monkey from the jungles of Zaire, Africa. When this deadly disease spreads in a California town, a group of scientists realize that it could spread through the rest of the United States in a matter of days. But as the military quarantine becomes tighter and tighter, the head scientist begins to suspect that something else is going on, and that he himself might be in danger for knowing it. I myself found this movie very interesting. I would recommend this movie to anyone. Other movies that have been seen that are similar and interesting like this one are The Plague Fighters, and Killer Disease On Campus-meningitis. Outbreak was a movie that caught a lot of attention by a lot of people. I would rate this movie a 9 out of 10!
