    Editorial Reviews

Miller (Hugo Stiglitz) is a reporter on to something when he sees passengers disembark from a plane and start attacking and murdering whomever they come across -- no, they are not upset with their service, they are zombies -- or more accurately ghouls who need human blood to stay alive. While flight attendants may contend that more than one ghoul is on any flight, this group was contaminated by a man exposed to radiation that leaked from a nuclear plant, and they are hereafter identifiable by their black-face make-up, if not their eating habits. When Miller tries to notify the citizens that these monsters are on the loose, he is rudely stopped by a nasty general (Mel Ferrer) who does not want to make the public unnecessarily hysterical. The monsters have a molecular structure that is not affected by bullets, and so in imitation of the accepted code that zombies only die with a shot to the head, the general launches his attack "aiming for the control center" of each zombie head, before everyone is converted into the blood-thirsty monsters. With anemic acting, murky color, and other technical problems, this is simply another zombie film among the masses. Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

November 14, 2003: Granted, this may not be the best zombie film (if you want to call it that) out there, but its not the worst either. Sure, the make-up stinks, the acting is stiff, and the ending is a low blow to horror fans everywhere! However, it tries to be different than the rest of the 'zombie' stuff out there. These mutuated beings are an influence to the likes of '28 Days Later' and the Dan O'Bannon classic, 'Return of the Living Dead.' They can fight back and prove to be a really threatening menace. Plus, the great music score by Stelvio Cipriani really stands out as some of Italian horror's best. I liked it, so sue me! I consider this the 1980's equivalent to 'Plan 9 from Outer Space'. It tries to be serious, but its just good, gorey, Italian horror fun.

September 28, 2003: This is also known as City of the Walking Dead. Watchable, in a unintentionally funny, I paid 99 cents for this sort of way. Things to watch for: -Despite a radio warning that Zombie pandemonium has ensued, two women hear a noise in the basement and do some investigating...scantilly clad investigating that is! -the mutated zombies look suspiciously like Italian men with oatmeal caked on their faces. Trust me, I know what an Italian man with oatmeal on his face looks like. -various bit player victims run around in circles waiting for the Zombies to attack them...on film. -the whole aerobics studio scene. -the military's flawless security. Not as bad as Hell of the Walking Dead, but not as good as say Batman Forever.
