NCIS (Naval Criminal Investigative Service) is more than just an action drama. With liberal doses of humor, it's a show that focuses on the sometimes complex and always amusing dynamics of a team forced to work together in high-stress situations. Led by NCIS Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon), a former Marine gunnery sergeant who's not afraid to bend the rules, the team faces new challenges in Season 3. They must somehow band together and recover after suffering the devastating loss of one of their special agents, Kate Todd (Sasha Alexander), to a terrorist at the close of season 2. Further complicating matters for Gibbs is Jennifer Shepard (Lauren Holly), Gibbs's former lover, who is the new director of NCIS. The NCIS team includes Special Agent Anthony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly), an ex-homicide detective who may come off as the world's oldest frat boy but whose instincts in the field are unparalleled; forensic specialist Abby Sciuto (Pauley Perrette), a talented scientist whose dark wit matches her goth style and eclectic tastes; NCIS Special Agent Timothy McGee (Sean Murray), an MIT graduate whose brilliance with computers far overshadows his insecurities in the field; and Ziva David (Cote de Pablo), a former Mossad agent who shares a bond with Gibbs in desiring the death of his archnemesis, Ari, who killed Agent Todd. Assisting the team is medical examiner Dr. Donald "Ducky" Mallard (David McCallum), who knows it all because he's seen it all -- and is not afraid to tell you. From murder and espionage to terrorism and stolen submarines, these special agents travel the globe to investigate all crimes with Navy or Marine Corps ties. From the Studio

July 26, 2009: NCIS Season 3 arrows forward with another excellent season filled with action and interesting character development. The team's emotions run the gamut as it rebuilds and reknits after losing a member, and Jethro is thrown into somewhat of a tailspin when the current Director is replaced by someone with whom he has history. The chance to see beneath the layers of the team to the hearts and minds within is just another selling point for this fine box set. Well worth adding to the collection.
