    Editorial Reviews

Jane Siberry's catchy theme song establishes a sweet, funky groove for this "bugstravaganza" based on David Kirk's beloved picture books. Brooke Shields and SCTV legend Rick Moranis top the voice cast as Miss Spider and her new husband, Holley, with Tony Jay lending a sinister, George Sanders–esque menace to the voice of jealous rival Spideris. Miss Spider becomes the mother of five mischievous children. One of them, Squirt, finds an egg and embarks on a treacherous journey to return the egg to its source, a chicken. This computer-animated treat replicates the look of Kirk's illustrations, although the script dispenses with his rhyming prose. Fortunately, warmly reassuring sentiments -- such as "All of our differences make a world of difference," and "Everyone belongs to someone who loves them the best" -- carry over from the book. Young viewers will surely cheer on the brave Spider-Baby. Donald Liebenson, Barnes & Noble
