The cozy villages of Midsomer County reveal their most sinister secrets in these contemporary British television mysteries. Inspired by the novels of Caroline Graham, the modern mistress of the English village mystery, the series stars John Nettles as the unflappable Detective Chief Inspector Barnaby, with John Hopkins as his brash young assistant, Sergeant Dan Scott. Guest stars include Garry Cooper, Diana Quick, Harriet Walter, and Caroline Blakiston. The four mysteries included here debuted on Britain's ITV before jumping the pond for telecasts on A&E. "Things That Go Bump in the Night" (original U.K. airdate: October 10, 2004) concerns a series of grisly murders that rock the village of Fletcher's Cross. Local spiritualists fall under suspicion. Barnaby and Scott immerse themselves in the luxurious world of rowing in "Dead in the Water" (October 17th) -- after a murder mars the annual Midsomer Regatta. The duo attempt to divine who might kill to own an extremely rare orchid specimen in "Orchia Fatalis" (January 9, 2005), set in the horticultural hotbed of Midsomer Malham. Finally, in "Bantling Boy" (January 16th), the owner of Bantling Hall bequeaths his champion thoroughbred to four Midsomer villagers. Why? The only person who knows doesn't live to tell the tale. Special features include a Caroline Graham biography and cast filmographies. From the Studio
