Editorial Reviews

Murder, mystery and mayhem return to the cozy villages of Midsomer County as Detective Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby (John Nettles) and his earnest protégé Detective Constable Ben Jones (Jason Hughes) unravel four confounding feature-length cases, involving a sinister cover-up, a Masonic dagger found in a company that seems to manufacture murder, and a rock band's "killer" reunion performance. These four episodes originally aired in Season 10 from 2006-7 and include:
"Dance with the Dead"
Never mind the tube connecting the exhaust pipe to the window of the vintage automobile -- Simon Bright's (Edward Davenport) death only looks like a suicide. The lovesick young man’s murder touches off a search for Laura (Liz Watts), his girlfriend and partner in ballroom dancing classes. But who saved the last dance for Simon?
"The Animal Within"
Faith Alexander's (Lisa Eichhorn) unannounced visit to her wealthy Uncle Rex's (Richard Johnson) estate turns into quite a surprise, indeed. Everyone there thinks she died in a plane crash three years earlier. When Rex’s body turns up, his would-be heirs engage in a battle of wills that exposes plenty of motives for murder.
"King’s Crystal"
Owners of an artisan glassworks, the King family harbors relationships of positively Shakespearean complexity. When the enterprise shatters into pieces and its accountant winds up stabbed, Barnaby digs into rivalries of business and blood -- while Jones explores secret Masonic rites.
"The Axeman Cometh"
Thirty years past their prime, the band Hired Gun aims for a comeback at the Midsomer Rocks Music Festival. With Barnaby among the legions of fans who still love the band’s music, their revival holds promise -- until someone sounds a discordant note by killing off the musicians, one by one. November 21, 2009: Chief Inspector Barnaby is a remarkable detective and a regular guy. This series always keeps my attention and I find every episode totally entertaining and spellbinding. It is a country atmosphere and such fun to watch the locals both the guilty and innocent. Great Series from the other side of the "pond!"

November 21, 2009: Jason Hughes (Ben Jones)as Barnaby's sidekick is the best ever. The story lines stay consistently intriguing. John Nettles is a natural in his role as Barnaby. The supporting cast in all the stories is exquisite. This is one of my favorite, long-running series. There has never been a lull in the interesting story episodes. I highly recommend this current series and all the previous ones.
