Directed, acted, and produced in the same mold -- and on the same level -- as its many other family friendly, critically-acclaimed television specials, Hallmark Entertainment presents Merlin's Apprentice: Search for the Holy Grail. Starring screen legend Sam Neill (Dead Calm, A Cry in the Dark) in the title role and one of Britain's most accomplished thespians, Miranda Richardson (Damage) as The Lady of the Lake, the miniseries opens with the great wizard returning to Camelot, only to find the entire mythical community in ruins from the theft of its most revered Holy Grail. Accompanied by a rambunctious young pickpocket named Jack (John Henry Reardon), Merlin undertakes a quest to retrieve the Grail and restore Camelot to its original glory. Merlin's Apprentice: Search for the Holy Grail co-stars Tegan Moss as Yvonne, Christopher Jacot as Graham, Meghan Ory as Brianna, and Woody Jeffreys as Arthur. Veteran Hong Kong Kung-fu filmmaker and John Woo-apprentice David Wu directs. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide All Movie Guide

April 16, 2006: In no way do I wish to defame the acting talents of Sam Neil or Miranda Richardson. BUT... for the life of me, I can not figure out what, under any circumstances, would induce these two stellar actors of appear in this follow-up movie to "Merlin". It is by far one of the most awful movies I have ever seen. I can't even think of enough adjectives that can describe how truly, truly bad this movie is. I got 1/4 through veiwing and thought...what is this?...what has happened here...? Sorry folks, "Merlin" was a fun romp, "Merlin's Apprentice"??...I can't even put in words how disappointed I was with it. Garage sale fodder is all it's worth, even then I'd feel obligated to warn a potential buyer to save their money. Disheartening to say the least, maybe even brokenheartning for the fantasy movie fan that I am. I can't talk about costumes, sets, even special effects...it's just not worth a comment. You may feel different, but take the advice of someone who has been a movie fan for over 40 years, covering every aspect of the industry (drama, comedy, western, musical, sci-fi, fantasy, etc), I know my stuff and don't need a degree to prove it. Bad is Bad...pure and simple.
