Editorial Reviews

Madonna -- dance-floor icon, cultural phenomenon, mother of two -- once again changed personae and shifted focus for the Drowned World tour. Her oft-erotic stage moves merge with electronica beats (courtesy of collaborators William Orbit and French DJ Mirwais Ahmadzai) for a truly memorable set, most of which comes from the Music and Ray of Light albums. Filmed in Auburn Hills, Michigan on August 26, 2001, she has never been better. A bizarre moment occurs early on when Madonna straps on a guitar and noodles on the end of "Candy Perfume Girl," but otherwise she keeps things predominantly kinetic. The tracks are as follows, with the original albums in parentheses:

  • Drowned World/Substitute for Love (Ray of Light)
  • Impressive Instant (Music)
  • Candy Perfume Girl (Ray of Light)
  • Beautiful Stranger (from the Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me soundtrack)
  • Ray of Light (Ray of Light)
  • Paradise (But Not for Me) (Music)
  • Frozen (Ray of Light)
  • Open Your Heart (True Blue)
  • Swell
  • Nobody's Perfect (Music)

February 11, 2002: Madonna is incredible on this tour. Not only are the vocals amazing but it is just as enjoyable to watch. Her charisma and dedication to her fans makes this performance so personal and touching. Leaving her past in the past and bringing a new perspective to her later music will leave anyone open to her awesome none stop hits! I look forward to the new album this fall. We love you Madonna!
