Editorial Reviews

Season 2 of AMC's hit drama about a fictional New York advertising firm, Sterling Cooper, jumps ahead to 1962 with the return of Peggy Olson (Elisabeth Moss), who is now svelte and the subject of rumors about her time away. Don Draper (Jon Hamm) butts heads with new colleague Herman "Duck" Phillips (Mark Moses), who is determined to snag more prestigious clients no matter the cost. Harry (Rich Sommer), with a baby on the way, asks to create a TV advertising division within the agency and surprisingly gets the job. Don steps out with Bobbie Barrett (Melinda McGraw) -- wife of Utz pretzel spokesman and comedian Jimmy Barrett (Patrick Fischler) -- who in turn has quite a few things to say to Don's wife, Betty (January Jones). By midseason, Peggy finally infiltrates the boys-only club of Sterling Cooper and is made a junior account executive; Colin Hanks joins the cast as Father John Gill, the new priest in Peggy's family's parish; and, after Freddy Rumsen (Joel Murray) embarrasses himself and Sterling Cooper for the last time, Pete (Vincent Kartheiser) seizes the opportunity to impress Don and the firm. By the end of the 13-episode season, we get more information about who the real Don Draper is after he takes off for Los Angeles, and Betty stuns Don with an announcement in the season finale. November 16, 2009: I can't say enough good things about this fabulous series. The writing is superb as are the acting and directing. Having lived through the sixties, I can attest that the series is spot on about the zeitgeist of the 60's. The costumes and sets are amazing and the character of Don Draper is brilliant. Don is flawed, yet still good at his core. He is damaged, but with hope of healing. I wish this wonderful series would never end. It is truly the best of television. It appeals to adults of all ages (not for anyone under 18). My twenty something son is a huge fan, too.

Fantastic sequel to season one!by Anonymous

November 11, 2009: The second season of Mad Men gives and even greater insight into the lives of the characters. The precedent set by the first season is certainly maintained if not exceeded. Much like any other television series, I would not recommend watching season two if you haven't seen season one.
