Editorial Reviews

Alicia Goranson, Brendan Sexton III, and David Eigenberg star in director Adrienne Weiss' affectionate tale of sisterly devotion versus romantic yearning. By day, Queens native Myra (Goranson) has a reputation as hard-working firecracker of an office clerk who's not afraid to speak her mind, but by night, the outwardly hardened office worker goes soft as she lovingly caters to the needs of her artistically driven but emotionally unstable brother Ludlow (Sexton III). As Myra's burgeoning relationship with kind-hearted office employee Reggie (Eigenberg) begins to take a turn for the serious, the resulting tug of war waged for Myra's affection finds the emotional Ludlow lashing out and attempting to sabotage his sister's burgeoning romance. Though Myra's devotion to her troubled brother has always thus far resulted in a virtually non-existent social life, the prospect of following her strong feelings for the sweet and sensitive loner finds the encumbered sister struggling to find a comfortable middle ground between her senses of love, responsibility, and freedom. November 24, 2005: Love, Ludlow is a charming, inventive film about second chances in love for those who'd already resigned themselves to a life of loneliness. In fact, as the film opens, it is clear that each of the two main characters, Myra and Reggie, have warmed to their compromised lives of quiet desperation. When "chances" arise, both know only too well how to fling up the obligatory defenses to potential pain. When the would-be lovers meet, neither seems convinced that the effort to make something of it is worth the painful risks. And then, of course, for Myra there's Ludlow, her "troubled," live-in brother and the ultimate weapon to turn away those like Reggie who have the audacity to work their way into her life and heart. Can these two give their lives a second chance? And can the three, Reggie, Myra, and Ludlow, coexist? Screenwriter Paterson and director Weiss handle it all with humor, honesty, and a keen eye for detail. Much to recommend in this little Indie gem.

November 23, 2005: Caught this film at the Atlanta film Festival last Summer. Being from Queens, it was great to see some of my old neighborhood, and David Eigenberg, who was in SEX IN THE CITY really plays a funny and quirky character. And the Bald guy Storkelson guy is hysterical.
