Why rewrite a classic?by Anonymous

February 03, 2010: The premise intrigued me, it began rather cleverly, but the overall impression I got was that the creators of "Lost In Austen" were a bit full of themselves, claiming the story should be rewritten using their lordly powers of ingenuity. The heroine Amanda claims to be a great fan of "Pride & Prejudice" but when she is stranded inside of the story, she never has any fun. While I'd be dressing up, having the Bennett sisters do my hair, & being more of an observer, Amanda is blind to the characters she claims to love and proceeds to muddle the very plot lines that make the classic story dear to readers. No one is left unscathed by her brazen language and influence. And Darcy-- I thought the loose end of his non-relationship with Elizabeth would be tied, but a wholly unimaginative ending dashes those hopes. Please read the book if you have the slightest inclination to see this film.

I Also Recommend: Pride and Prejudice (Barnes & Noble Classics Series).

January 10, 2010: We loved this movie and gave copies to friends. The basic plot is simple, but the script is quite clever in how the role and character of some characters from Jane Austin's Pride and Prejudice are changed. The movie is best for fans of Austin's, as there are quite a few tricks and turns in the P&P story line. The depiction of a modern woman transported back into Jane Austin's time is handled in a quite clever manner.
