Season 6 affords three blessed events for the Ingalls family: Albert (Matthew Laborteaux) is adopted, Laura (Melissa Gilbert) falls in love, and Mary (Melissa Sue Anderson) gives birth. But Little House on the Prairie goes more frequently for the tear-jerking jugular in this 26-episode run, with several tragedies that will test the faith and family ties that bind the residents of Walnut Grove. In "The Faith Healer," guest star James Olson is exposed as a fraud after a small boy under his ministrations dies. The wrenching, Emmy-nominated two-parter "May We Make Them Proud" centers on Albert’s accidental setting of a fire that guts the School for the Blind -- a blaze in which Mary's baby and Alice Garvey (Hersha Paraday) lose their lives. But this great bear hug of a series is big on healing and redemption. In the heartwarming episode "Annabelle," Nels Oleson (Richard Bull) comes to accept his long-lost sister (Harriett Gibson), the fat lady in a traveling circus. In "The Return of Mr. Edwards," Charles Ingalls (Michael Landon) gives an injured and despondent Mr. Edwards (Victor French) a new lease on life. Little House is also about a community with an "all of us" ethic. In "The Werewolf of Walnut Grove," Laura and her classmates unite to take back their school from a bully. This DVD set offers a richly satisfying season with the virtuous characters from Laura Ingalls Wilder's books, as well as an oasis amid today's "prime time," which offers nothing like this beloved series. June 20, 2009: What can one say- It is a family classic. My young daughters (6 and 8 now) started watching the episodes about 2 years ago and are HOOKED. Very family friendly. Educational and thought provoking. Helps to instill and enforce great values and morals.
