Editorial Reviews

Meet George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, John and Abigail Adams, Paul Revere, Benedict Arnold, Deborah Samson, and other heroes behind the American Revolution as they come to life in the popular animated series Liberty's Kids. Offering rich animation and engaging storytelling, Liberty's Kids - The Complete Series explores the fabric of American history and the fundamental ideals of the United States -- patriotism, freedom, and democracy. Moreover, this acclaimed animated series enlightens children by exploring the profound impact of the American Revolution and relating it to issues that face all of us today. The series brings America's history to life and depicts key events from the Revolution as seen through the eyes of three kids who work in Benjamin Franklin's print shop. The kids may be fiction, but all of the history is accurate and authentic. Walter Cronkite as Benjamin Franklin leads an all-star voice cast, which includes Annette Bening (Abigail Adams), Warren Buffet (James Madison), Billy Crystal (John Adams), Michael Douglas (Patrick Henry), Whoopi Goldberg (Deborah Samson), Dustin Hoffman (Benedict Arnold), Liam Neeson (John Paul Jones), Maria Shriver (Peggy Shippen), Ben Stiller (Thomas Jefferson), Arnold Schwarzenegger (Baron von Steuben), Sylvester Stallone (Paul Revere), Michael York (Admiral Lord Howe), and General Norman Schwarzkopf (George Rogers Clark), among others. The series ran for 40 episodes on PBS from September 2002 to April 2003. Bonus features include behind-the-scenes footage and featurettes. From the Studio

October 14, 2009: I was middle school when this show first aired. Now I'm in high school and I still find this series inspiring and informative. Many episodes taught something that none of my history teachers did, and it was displayed in an easy to understand and creative way. Eventhough the kids are fictional characters, they really helped in understanding the emotional part of the Revolution as well as the factual part. Years after watching the first episode in the early morning before I went to school, I still enjoy re-watching Liberty's Kids.

September 12, 2009: I'm a fifth grade teacher, and I use many episodes of this to support my American Revolution unit. The kids enjoy it. The students still need lessons to truly understand what is happening in the episodes, but these episodes make good previews or good follow-ups.
