July 03, 2008: I thought this was a good film, but nowhere near the greatness of the novel. Frederic March is a very good Jean Valjean, and the rest of the acting is very good too. It is not extremely faithfull to the book, but pretty close, however, this movie leaves out the fact that Fantine was a prostitute. I know that would have been very controversial for the time, but it does take away from the story. Still, it's a good film.
