Longtime fans had something special to cheer about after Law & Order: Special Victims Unit's seventh season: a first-ever Emmy win for Mariska Hargitay's performance as Detective Olivia Benson, as well as costar Christopher Meloni's first nomination for his portrayal of Detective Elliot Stabler. The 2005-6 run also offers four of the best SVU episodes ever, including: "911" (the episode that earned Hargitay her award), in which Benson races against time to locate a kidnapped child who has called 911; "Ripped" (the episode that got Meloni his nod), a look at child abuse that features a 12-minute tour-de-force scene by Meloni; "Demons," in which Robert Patrick guest-stars as a recently paroled rapist who struggles against temptation; and "Fault," an equally heartbreaking and heart-stopping episode that finds Benson and Stabler hunting for child killer Victor Gitano (Lou Diamond Phillips). Rebecca DeMornay guest-stars as a cleverly vindictive spouse in "Manipulated," and Tamara Tunie -- finally a full-time cast member -- gets a chance to shine as Dr. Melinda Warner in "Blast." As in other seasons, the 22 episodes of Season 7 feature some fantastic guest actors, such as Teri Garr, Lynda Carter, CCH Pounder, Marcia Gay Harden, Dean Cain, Barry Bostwick, and Kate Mulgrew.
