November 21, 2009: Ice age 3 is what is is: Ice Age. While the first movie was very funny, the second movie was thrilling, this one dazzles with eye-candy. This is a great movie to sit in front of when there's nothing better to watch and you just want to be hypnotized by great visuals. The art work team really stepped it up in the third Ice Age installment by going far beyond what I ever expected from them. Everything from the prehistoric settings to the dinosaurs themselves were very fun to look at. However, while the story itself wasn't weak enough to criticize, I was disturbed by the weakness in character found in our main players. But it's a sequel to a children's movie where that doesn't really matter for its intended audience, so I'll let that slide. That being said - that it's a children's movie - I think the movie-makers either A) forgot about that one detail, or B) don't give a rip if they go genital/sex happy in front of their own children. There is A LOT of sexual references in this movie. Now, before you place a pulpit before me, please know that I'm not someone who is going to freak out if my child hears a bad word or shelters my child from anything scary or negative (whithin reason, of course). So I won't preach about the innappropriate - and unnecissary - jokes (which honestly are only funny if you're still stuck in jr. high). I will say that most six year olds will just let the comments roll over their heads, but this could put parents in unnecissary positions if their seven-eleven year olds start repeating things and asking pre-mature questions about things from this movie. Basically this was a visually-stunning movie that just got genitle(sp?) happy. And the new character Buck was nothing but a cardboard cut-out of a very innapropriate jr. higher whom you wouldn't want your kids to invite over. The movie could have largly done without him.
