November 20, 2002: Falstaff is Verdi's last opera (a comedy) and also his most musically sophisticated. This is a 1982 live recording at the Salzburg Festival, with Herbert von Karajan conducting the Wiener Philarmoniker. The singers are Giuseppe Tadei (Falstaff), Raina Kabaivanska (Alice), Rolando Panerai (Ford), Francisco Araiza (Fenton) and Christa Ludwig (Quickly). Overall this is an excellent performance, with very good soloists and orchestra, and finely staged. I highly recommend it.
