Editorial Reviews

After the playful day-in-the-life comedy of A Hard Day's Night, director Richard Lester led the Beatles through an even more off-kilter romp in this, their second feature. A musical spoof of a James Bond movie, the action tracks the Fab Four to the four corners of the earth with a fanatical religious cult in constant pursuit. It seems they're after a divine relic that has fallen into, or rather onto, Ringo's unwitting hand. While not quite as masterful a film as A Hard Day's Night, Help! brims with visual ideas and exuberant adventure. The avalanche of clever sight gags would give the Austin Powers movies a run for their money. The songs remain magnificent, and they come at a relentless pace: "Ticket to Ride" is performed amid skiing hijinks on the Swiss Alps; Stonehenge affords "The Night Before" a gloomy backdrop; and "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away" glistens in an intimate studio performance. Digitally remastered and with eight minutes of bonus footage, this is a wonderful new edition of a rock 'n' roll classic. Donald Gray, Barnes & Noble

A Fun Beatles Adventureby DuckyandRingo4ever

October 16, 2009: Though not as good as A Hard Days Night, this movie is very fun and enjoyable to watch! Poor Ringo in danger of being sacrificed and kidnapped not by one but two different factions for different reasons, the band being chased and attacked made for a very engaging adventure. The acting was better, the music fantastic and the characters, especially Roy Kinnear as the bumbling assistant was hilarious. My favorite scene was when Ringo was hooked up Foot's contraption, the assistant tells the lads that he (Foot) is out to rule the world..if he could get a government grant. Other standouts were the fight scene in the lads' flat with George leaping at John's throat,,(John) It's me you fool (George, still shaking John's throat) Oh, sorry (John) Well stop it, the lads in Buckingham Palace, George rescuing Ringo and John and Paul posing as Ringo to draw out the cultists after him. A far out plot but a fun adventure nonetheless and a movie that is watchable over and over!
