A clever plot, earnest performances, and gorgeous cinematography of breathtakingly beautiful Cayman Islands locations add luster to this mainstream thriller. Writer-director Frank E. Flowers, a longtime Caymans resident, spins separate story threads -- frequently flashing backward and forward in time -- into an intricate web. After being tipped off that the feds are onto him, shady money launderer Carl Ridley (Bill Paxton) flees to the Caymans, where he negotiates with his equally shady financial adviser, the enigmatic Mr. Allen (Stephen Dillane). Meanwhile, Ridley's 18-year-old daughter, Pippa (Agnes Bruckner), takes up with a local lad, Richie (Razaaq Adoti), who has a weakness for other people’s fancy cars, boats, and condos. We’re also introduced to the oddly named Shy (Orlando Bloom), whose passionate affair with Andrea (Zoe Saldana) has aroused the ire of her family members, who plan on communicating their displeasure by doing him harm. As the star, Bloom may garner the most attention, but the supporting actors -- particularly Paxton and Dillane -- are extremely effective in well-defined roles. Ed Hulse, Barnes & Noble
