    Director Lawrence Kasdan's Grand Canyon is a gathering of random events, uniting the film's wildly divergent protagonists. Driving home from an LA Lakers game, Mack (Kevin Kline), an immigration attorney, is stranded in an unsavory part of town when his car breaks down. He is rescued from a gang of hoods by Simon (Danny Glover), an African-American tow truck driver, inaugurating a friendship between these two men. Mack offers to repay Simon's kindness by helping his sister (Tina Lifford) find an apartment in a better neighborhood, and by arranging a blind date between Simon and Jane (Alfre Woodard), a friend of Mack's secretary Dee (Mary Louise Parker). Woven into this fabric are the tribulations of Mack's best friend, a pompous exploitation movie producer (Steve Martin), who is later wounded in a robbery similar to the one threatening Mack at the beginning of the film; of Mack's wife Claire (Mary McDonnell), who adopts an abandoned baby, and disenfranchised son Roberto (Jeremy Sisto); and of Simon's nephew (Patrick Malone), who is contemplating joining a street gang.     July 11, 2009: Saw it years ago and bought it on disc. It's a must own!

    Has so many messages that link together to sum it all up in the end. Keeps you on your toes, no lag time or boring parts, and is totally entertaining with all star cast. I reccommend it highly if you need a good dialogue movie with thought!

    September 20, 2005: Lawrence Kasdan, the director of the Big Chill, succeeds in telling a story that weaves between three plotlines about people living in L.A. Mack (Kevin Kline) is an immigration attorney coming home from a Lakers game and when his car breaks down a gang of hoods threatens to do him harm. He is rescued by a tow truck driver named Simon (Danny Glover), who immediately takes a liking to Mack, and tells Mack his views on life over breakfast. Mack offers to help Simon out by helping his sister move to an apartment in a better section of town. He also helps by introducing him to his secretary and one time mistress’s (Mary-Louise Parker) friend Jane (Alfre Woodard). Mack’s wife Claire (Mary McDonnell) finds an abandoned baby while jogging and ponders the idea of keeping it, while her son Roberto (Jeremy Sisto) is away at camp. There are a lot of different stories woven into one basic idea that is pretty thought provoking and sometimes you can’t tell what might be a dream and what is supposed to be real. Pay attention. Oh and the soundtrack by James Newton Howard is really good too. You hear a lot of the dramatic music that you hear in car commercials these days.
