The feminist horror film genre might not have very many prominent entries, but the critically acclaimed 2000 film Ginger Snaps was just that. A darkly humorous chiller that drew parallels between menstruation and a werewolf curse, the John Fawcett picture garnered several Canadian Genie Award nominations and a loyal cult following. Four years later, Brett Sullivan, the film's editor, made his feature directorial debut with this sequel, Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed. Katharine Isabelle and Emily Perkins reprise their roles from the first film as sisters Ginger and Brigitte, respectively. This time around, Brigitte is found by the police after being attacked and taken to rehab when it's assumed that the wolfbane serum that keeps her from turning into a monster is a narcotic. Once inside the facility and denied the substance, Brigitte must strike deals with one of the orderlies to obtain it; meanwhile, she is pursued by another werewolf, and escapes with Ghost, another female patient, to that girl's vacant old house, which sets the stage for a brutal showdown -- made even nastier when the orderly, a hospital doctor, and the elderly Barbara show up and decide to intervene. Also starring Tatiana Maslany, Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed was followed only a few months later by Ginger Snaps Back. Matthew Tobey, All Movie Guide

November 03, 2008: "Ginger Snaps" returns and this time, it's just as good (if not better than) as the original!

This time, you follow Brigitte, Ginger's sister. She's plagued by Ginger's spirit (in a sense) and also struggles to keep her own infection at bay. Using the wolf bane serum, she tries to calm it. After a bit of an "issue" and some OD on it, she's found passed out in the snow where she wakes up in a rehab center, where's she's mistaken as a druggie. Now, she's stuck here without her serum and with the "help" of a girl named Ghost, she tries to find a way to escape. However, her other problem? There's a new wolf and he's tracking her and he desperately wants to find her...

I honestly think I liked this one better than the original. It was much creepier at some parts and actually had me on edge, while the original just had me sitting there, not really worried about seeing anything that would scare me. xD But this one was different. Sudden flashes of gory images and creepier atmospheres can quickly make you uneasy. The movie's entire filming is obviously of better quality. The wolf this time? Fur! Yeah, fur. It doesn't look like the bald ugly things from the original, which looked like a plus for me.

All performances are pretty well done and quite believable, from Brigitte to Ghost to the "pervert guard" (can't remember his name) that you'll see many times.

If you've seen the first Ginger Snaps, see this one as well. If you haven't, go back, see the first one, then see this one. :3 Well worth the time.

I Also Recommend: Ginger Snaps: The Beginning, Ginger Snaps.

June 21, 2008: I loved this movie and it is just as good as the first one, even though I know that some others would disagree. Its a good horror flick and it kept me entertained throughout the whole film, which can be hard to do. Brigitte is a lot stronger in this movie than in the first one, which I liked, perhaps the only thing that I did not enjoy was the ending. It has a twist that I didn't really see coming, nonetheless this is a great film and I would definitely reccomend it.
