Editorial Reviews

Although it hasn't enjoyed the blockbuster success of such earlier WB hits as Dawson's Creek, the mother-daughter series Gilmore Girls has built a rabid fan base with its clever dialogue, engaging characters, and potent doses of drama. Collecting the show's entire first season (21 episodes), this set allows fans to explore the kinetic relationship between spunky Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham) and her bookish teen daughter, Rory (Alexis Bledel), as well as to savor the spitfire dialogue that distinguishes the show from common fare. Fans who eagerly attempt to decipher each and every cultural reference in the scripts will relish the bonus material, which includes lengthy interview clips with the show's creators and actors, plus a scene featuring deconstructed "factoids." Season 1 introduces the series' main players, including the intimidating, blue-blooded senior Gilmores (Kelly Bishop and Edward Herrmann) -- who have always had a tenuous relationship with their only daughter -- along with Lorelai's best buddies, accident-prone chef Sookie (Melissa McCarthy) and scruffy diner owner Luke (Scott Patterson), who's got his own magnetic rapport with Ms. G. The colorful supporting characters, minor in screen time only, bring to life the milieu of tiny Stars Hollow, Connecticut. Standouts include: Keiko Agena as Rory's buddy Lane, a pop music-obsessed teen struggling with a strict Korean mom; Jared Padalecki as Rory’s perfect first boyfriend, Dean; and Yanic Truesdale as the endearing and curmudgeonly concierge Michel. Lorelai and Rory's joint obsessions, from food to film nights, lend a sisterly tone to their relationship, as do their dovetailing romances: Rory's with Dean and Lorelai's with English teacher Max (Scott Cohen). But when the going gets tough, as when private school tuition necessitates an appeal to Rory's grandparents, Lorelai is every bit the mom, albeit in her own unconventional way. Both heartbreaking and heartwarming, Gilmore Girls offers laughs and truisms for every generation. Lydia Vanderloo, Barnes & Noble

January 04, 2009: This is the first in the Gilmore Girl sereis. It starts out with a detailed plot with vivid characters. They all add to the series' quirkiness and likability. From debutante balls to graduations, this show teaches it all. Rory and Lorealai show a fantastic, stimulation mother-daughter relationship.

One review in the paper said mothers and daughter would stand sitting in the same room together to watch this show. Truthfully, I believe it. Not only does it teach good lessons, but it shows how to make bad situations better over time.

Many shows a dreary, or can only be watched once or twice. Well, this is NOT one of those!!! My sister and I have watched it so many times we can recite the script by knowing which episode it is.

If you watch this show, I guarentee you will love it.

I Also Recommend: Our Little Corner of the World: Music from the Gilmore Girls, Gilmore Girls: I Do, Don't I?, Gilmore Girls: I Love You, You Idiot, Other Side of Summer (Gilmore Girls Series #4), Gilmore Girls: Like Mother, Like Daughter.

Can't get enough!!by Stars_Hollow_Resident
