Three great mid-1980s specials featuring the lasagna-loving cat get their DVD due in this set, including the Emmy Award-winning Garfield's Halloween Adventure (‘85), A Garfield Christmas Special (’87), and Garfield's Thanksgiving Show (‘89). Halloween finds Garfield (Lorenzo Music) and his slobbery buddy, Odie (Gregg Berger), dressing up as pirates and going on a "Candy, candy, candy!" raid. The two discover a haunted house inhabited by treasure-hunting pirates who have returned as ghosts. The great Lou Rawls sings the songs "This Is the Night" and "Scaredy Cat." For Christmas, Jon (Thom Huge) brings Garfield and Odie back to the Arbuckle farm to spend time with his family: Grandma (Pat Caroll), Mom (Julie Payne), Dad (Pat Harrington Jr.), and brother Doc Boy (Laverne & Shirley's David L. Lander). It’s a sweet tale about the importance of family; chances are you'll be teary-eyed during Grandma's chats with Garfield as he lies cozily on her lap, or at least when you see how Odie creates Garfield's surprise gift. In Thanksgiving, a trip to the vet leaves Garfield horrified to learn he must go on a diet -- before the day in which people "celebrate food by eating as much of it as possible." The prognosis is unlucky for Garfield but lucky for Jon, because the vet, Dr. Liz Wilson (Julie Payne), accepts his offer for dinner. '80s nostalgia fans will be pleased to see these three specials finally released on DVD, and parents can delight in sharing these classic 'toons with their kids. Christina Urban, Barnes & Noble
