At the risk of overstating things, Fosse is more than a tribute show: It's a portrait of a revolution. From his Hollywood directorial debut -- "From This Moment On" in Kiss Me, Kate -- it was clear that Bob Fosse was born to inject new life into staid tap and classical dance styles, inspiring hoofers to dizzying heights of expression in both solo and group contexts. His sublimely slinky style -- a jazzy meld of subtle, suggestive gestures complementing highly kinetic moves -- electrified Broadway and continues to reverberate in popular dance today. This show, winner of the 1999 Tony Award for Best Musical, is a greatest-hits tour de force. Fosse's accomplishments onstage (Damn Yankees!, Sweet Charity) and screen (Cabaret, All That Jazz) are brought to life by a 32-dancer ensemble led by stars Ann Reinking (his onetime muse) and the immortal Ben Vereen. Brought to vivid, hothouse life again are Sweet Charity's "Big Spender," with its sexy groping group formations, and "Steam Heat," the superbly economical stovepipe pants-and-bowler routine from The Pajama Game. All in all, the show kicks like no other. Tracks include the following:
