    Editorial Reviews

Barry Levinson directed this comedy in which success has a rather surprising effect on two old buddies. Nick Vanderpark (Jack Black) and Tim Dingman (Ben Stiller) are best friends and next-door neighbors who work together at a sandpaper factory. Nick and Tim often find themselves wishing for something more from life, and Nick has a habit of dreaming up harebrained get-rich-quick schemes that usually end in disaster. Tim is particularly appalled by Nick's latest idea, "Vapoorizer," a cleaning product which will make pet feces magically disappear, but to their shock, it turns out to be an incredible success, and before long Nick is wealthy beyond his wildest dreams. Tim, however, is still the same guy getting by in suburbia he's always been, and soon Tim finds himself bitterly resentful of his old friend. As Nick gets richer, Tim gets angrier, and he develops a drinking problem. One night, in a bar, Tim meets an eccentric drifter (Christopher Walken) who offers him some not-so-friendly advice on getting even with his old friend. Envy also stars Rachel Weisz and Amy Poehler as Tim and Nick's much-put-upon spouses. Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

November 10, 2004: ENVY is definitely the worst movie I have ever seen! Jack Black and Ben Stiller are two very funny actors, but in this movie ENVY, they play terrible roles. The movie is about a product that is invented called ?Vapoorize.? ?Vapoorize? is a spray that makes poop disappear and Jack Black, the one who created it, gets rich. Ben Stiller is his next door neighbor and becomes very jealous, and begins to ruin his family?s life and his own, with his envy. The humor in this movie is very crude and boring. The jokes are not funny and they are so stupid that it makes me not want to watch it. The subject matter of the movie is not something to waste your time watching. One person is jealous of his successful friend and is mad that he is not rich too. This movie is crude, stupid, and has terrible acting. I do not recommend ENVY to anyone, don?t waste your time!

November 09, 2004: Jack Black and Ben Stiller are a great duo in this hilarious comedy. It's a little slow at times, but Jack Black's comic genious makes up for it. Throughout the movie you see Ben's character trying to be serious all the time around Jack's unintentually stupid and spontaneous behavior. This makes a perfect mixture that creates a comedy full of funniness, anger, sadness, and even some darkness. It's funny, because Jack's charcter comes up with the most rediculous sounding idea, and Ben's character doesn't want anything to do with it. Next thing you know Ben's character is staring at an enormous mansion and rich best friend across the street. Ben's character becomes envious and things start to get dirty. This movie is hilarious and I would recomend it to anyone.
