Editorial Reviews

In the future in which the series Earth 2 is set, Earth has become an uninhabitable wasteland, leading survivors to relocate to space stations. The sterile environment and recycled air of these stations is making the inhabitants sick with a disease known as The Syndrome. When space station engineer Devon Adair's (Debrah Farentino) son Ulysses (Joey Zimmerman) is afflicted with The Syndrome, she launches the Eden Project -- the search for another planet capable of sustaining life. Ignoring government orders, Adair assembles a team to help settle the new planet, including mechanic John Danzinger (Clancy Brown), his daughter True (J. Madison Wright), pilot Alonzo Solace (Antonio Sabato Jr.), Doctor Julia Heller (Jessica Steen), former prison convict Yale (Sullivan Walker), government liaison Morgan Martin (John Gegenhuber), and his wife Bess (Rebecca Gayheart). The team crash-lands on their new home -- losing all their equipment -- and faces a hostile desert environment, food and water shortages, and a mysterious alien species. Naturally, everyone has to put aside differences to band together, and here the show’s casting serves it very well. Although it is set on a distant planet in the sci-fi future, Earth 2's denizens are more Lost than, say, they would be on a Star Trek. (Terry O’Quinn’s appearance as "O’Reilly" in six of the 22 episodes only adds to the déjà vu.) The NBC series only lasted one season -- from November 1995 to May ’96, and was perhaps ahead of its time. Barnes & Noble

June 10, 2005: While it's no Firefly, this show also deserved a longer life span. I'm glad to see it come out on dvd! I always enjoyed the sets and thought the premise was good.

May 20, 2005: I've been waiting for this for a long time! Truely an epic of the genre. I echo the sentiments above. Earth 2 is probably the smartest, best cast, plot driven sci-fi adventure series out there. Enjoy it!
