Editorial Reviews

In this animated film based on the popular series of fantasy books, six friends - a dwarf, a warrior, a half-elf, a mage, a knight and a kinder - have come together once again after spending five years searching for proof that the gods do in fact exist. Sadly, they reunite amidst rumors of a growing evil and an impending war - but now, with horror and chaos looming on the horizon, the goal of their searches may finally be within their grasp in the form of mysterious warrior princess bearing a crystal blue staff. A threat like none of them have seen is poised to overtake their homeland, but if these heroes can stand against it, they will become legends. Cammila Albertson, All Movie Guide

June 03, 2008: Dragonlance series are great reads. This movie just plain, well, it is not what I had hoped for, even for an animated movie. Seems to me, the producers could have made a complete series out of this. I don't expect the excellence like Lord of the Rings, but, the story got destroyed, the animation was horrible "thought this was old time Japanese animation". They could have done a much, much better job. The problem is, if they DO come out with sequels, it will be hard for me to want to buy them based on the purely and utterly disappointment I feel from this release!

January 23, 2008: When I first heard of this movie I was estatic, but now that I've finally got a chance to watch it, I'm not. The story was a fairly good adaptation, I was expeting alot of changes and omitions to get the length, but some of the big changes irked me, but overall not bad. Script gets 3 1/2 stars. Mostly, though, the animation appalled me. To begin with, there was no need to do the dragons/draconians in CG while leaving the rest of the movie in an old style, traditional cell shaded format, making a drastic difference in detail and motion between the heros and the dragons. Secondly, the blending between the two was horribly done barely lined up in some parts, and rather reminded me of public TV kid's shows where real people 'enter the cartoon world'. Save your money, buy it only if you must but I recomend you rent it first
