Editorial Reviews

In this drama based on the novel by Terry McMillan, Zora (Sanaa Lathan) is a woman who dreams of becoming a singing star, meanwhile supporting herself as a schoolteacher. Franklin (Wesley Snipes), a father of two whose divorce is about to become final, has lost his job as a construction worker and is trying to scrape up the money to launch his own business. Neither is looking for a relationship, but when Zora moves into Franklin's neighborhood, they find they're attracted to each other and must deal with the ups and downs of being in love. Produced for the premium cable network HBO, Disappearing Acts also stars John Amos and CCH Pounder; Lisa Jones wrote the screenplay from McMillan's novel. Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

November 05, 2003: I think anyone that has or has had a relationship can sympathize with this film. The scenes and the plot was so realistic and wonderfully played by these 2 actors. Sanna Lathan is becoming one of my favorite actresses. She's talented and beautiful. Only a movie this good can make a girl stay up until 3 in the morning crying and laughing alone. I loved it and i would watch it 100x

September 09, 2003: I believe this is the BEST Africian American movie put to screen. The actors, the movie, the message (outstanding). Words can not express the depth of graitude in knowing there are performers willing to interpret positive messages in the black community about striving to have something good in life as well as love, this movie has convince me that I can have it all. And thank-you Sanaa for truly representing a size 14 woman in the movie.
