    Editorial Reviews

Bubbling up from the primordial ooze of New Wave boop-boop bands in the early '80s, Depeche Mode proved to be a synthesizer act with more mettle than most, and a loyal following to prove it. Since bursting onto the North American charts in 1984 with the hit single "People Are People," the band has been a study in versatility, even veering into bluesy, rock-centric waters with the album Songs of Faith and Devotion. This concert disc, filmed live during the band’s Exciter tour in 2001, includes an incendiary two-hour show, presented here with a Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound mix. The DVD edition offers more than 90 minutes of extras, including bonus tracks and new interviews with the band and longtime Depeche Mode collaborator Anton Corbijn. The performances include:

  • Dream On -- Guitar Intro
  • The Dead of Night
  • The Sweetest Conditions
  • Halo
  • Walking in My Shoes
  • Dream On
  • When the Body Speaks
  • Waiting for the Night
  • It Doesn’t Matter Two
  • Breathe
  • Freelove
  • Enjoy the Silence
  • I Feel You
  • In Your Room
  • It’s No Good
  • Personal Jesus
  • Home
  • Condemnation
  • Black Celebration

June 21, 2002: The new Depeche Mode DVD, ''One Night in Paris,'' is incredible! I've been a huge fan of theirs for years, and this performance did not disappoint. Having seen them live many times, I can honestly say that this video gets as close as anything does to actually being there. In addition to the two hours of concert footage, there's a second disk with interviews and extra features, plus the option of choosing your own camera angle. I highly recommend this DVD. Even if you're just discovering Depeche Mode, you gotta have this one.
