Colors stars Robert Duvall and Sean Penn as partners on the LAPD's gang crime division. Duvall had hoped to spend more time with his family, but he's pulled back into active service because of a step-up in gang activity. He makes no secret of his contempt for his novice partner Penn, but eventually comes to rely on the younger man as a valuable street contact. The central crisis is the battle for supremacy between the "Crips" and the "Bloods," with every effort to call a truce stymied by the gang members themselves and by undue police intervention. November 06, 2006: Not much on personal relationships, the very frank and direct urban drama with Robert Duvall as a compassionate and veteran LAPD CRASH cop who wants to get out of the mean streets of LA, where he is respected by the "Crips" and "Bloods." His open contempt toward the bully rookie cop played magnifecently by Sean Pean, until his ruffian ways come in handy when the stuff hits the fan. Realistic ending and shows that not all cops are punks, just some are and that race will never be resolved in this country. Powerful directing performance by Dennis Hopper.

November 27, 2002: Colors is a movie the I could look at over and over because it's a simple movie which is moved by the paces of the actors playing the characters. Nothing is original in the script. However, when you have a veteran cop (Robert Duvall), playing an opposite against a rookie-bully cop (Sean Penn), you have two hrs. of entertainment. It also features an ensemble cast on the rise. Don Cheadle (BOOGIE NIGHTS),Leon (COOL RUNNINGS) , Tony Todd (CANDYMAN),very under-rated Glenn Plummer (MENACE 2 SOCIETY) , and a balding Damon Wayans (IN LIVING COLOR) are just a few. * I also noticed the hispanic kid off of SAVED BY THE BELL , is in a small extra cameo near the end.
