Editorial Reviews

Our favorite crime-fighting cuties are back for another feature-film go-round, and fans of the first film will not be disappointed: The ladies are just as lovely and lethal as ever. Full Throttle reintroduces us to Natalie (Cameron Diaz), Dylan (Drew Barrymore), and Alex (Lucy Liu), who remain in the employ of the enigmatic Charlie Townsend (John Forsythe, as always, voice alone) -- this time, investigating the theft of a witness-relocation database much sought after by rival mobsters. Demi Moore, returning to the screen after a three-year break, portrays a former Angel who has gone over to the dark side. Bernie Mac rather improbably but satisfactorily replaces Bill Murray as Bosley; Justin Theroux is a particularly nasty heavy; and returning cast members Matt LeBlanc, Luke Wilson, and Crispin Glover (the silver screen's undisputed king of creepy) make the most of their limited screen time. Once again, director "McG" is at the megaphone, fashioning stylish if physically impossible action sequences and loading each sequence with pop-culture references. The story is almost nonexistent, with scenes included seemingly to provide song cues for the succession of pop oldies that comprise the soundtrack. But let's face it, nobody watches a Charlie's Angels movie for the plot. The requisite pulchritude is more than amply supplied, and McG sustains a rapid pace that makes it easy to overlook the narrative's absurdities. Full Throttle, like its predecessor, provides two hours of mindless fun that calls for a healthy suspension of disbelief and buckets of hot, buttery popcorn. Ed Hulse, Barnes & Noble
