Full Product DetailsMovie producer Jerry Bruckheimer brought feature-quality writing and production values to episodic TV with the Emmy Award-winning series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. The first of what would prove to be many successful spin-offs, CSI: Miami quickly established its own following, winning several awards in this first run, including an Emmy. Paramount's seven-disc box set collects all 25 episodes from Miami's 2002-3 season and includes a bonus disc crammed with features. The spin-off is a brighter-looking show, taking place mostly during daytime in sun-bleached Miami, as opposed to the nocturnal Vegas settings of the original. David Caruso brings his trademark intensity to the role of crime scene investigation team leader Horatio Caine, and Emily Proctor emerges as the most interesting supporting character, ballistics expert Calleigh Duquesne. Some first-season episodes also include Kim Delaney -- like Caruso, an alumnus of NYPD Blue -- but she washed out before the series hit its stride. The mysteries are solidly constructed and, as in the original, interest develops from watching the tedious work that goes into analyzing even the most minute bits of physical evidence. The individual episodes hold up extremely well, but a major asset to this box set is its assortment of supplements. The discs are also graced with several commentaries from Miami's writers and producers, who describe the filming of key scenes and reveal interesting background info with admirable specificity.
