Dramatic but short on historyby Anonymous

August 24, 2008: I found this DVD very well done, dramatic, well cast etc...but not faithful in details to Dee Brown's work. Particularly disturbing was the portrait of Sitting Bull as a chief that bullied his own people. While the scene of his assassination was taken directly from Brown's pages, other details of Sitting Bull's story seemed foreign to me based on my reading. Anyway, rather than read my rant, read Dee Brown's book which has a much greater scope than the 132 minute DVD.

Enlightening and brilliantly executed!by Anonymous

March 21, 2008: This production of Dee Brown s lauded book is exceptional. The actors portraying the true characters are the best. I have been looking for books on Charles Eastman , who was portrayed in a fine manner by Adam Beach. This is a must for the enthusiast of American History and the Student of the Native Peoples of America. Every moment of this movie was interesting and thought provoking. The feature is the thing. The commentaries are so-so. The Commentaries contain a comparison to today regarding America in the Iraqi War. I do not agree with that. This is an issue that is entirely seperate. These are people that lived on the land before the Europeans , etc arrived. It portrays how they were treated. It has provoked me to read more on the subject. The locale of the production is beautiful and the Native Actors are wonderful! Wonderful faces!
