March 05, 2009: The Boondocks is a parody of real-life situations in our society. It makes one think outside the box and encourages change for the better(or worst sometimes). It will keep you laughing from beginning to the end. I would NOT suggest younger audiences to view this material.

I Also Recommend: The Boondocks - Complete First Season.

Why We Rated This Appropriate for Ages 16 and UP

What to watch out for

  • Language:

Many uses of the n-word; many bleeped words.

  • Messages

  • Sex:

Nothing explicit, but the innuendo is raunchy.

  • Violence:

Opening sequence shows the young character pointing a handgun at the screen. Many references to children getting beaten.

  • Drugs:

Beer consumption mentioned, and allusions to drug use, but nothing explicit.

  • Consumerism:

More promotion of other TV shows than products.

What Parents Need to Know

About Boondocks: the Complete Second Season

Parents need to know that even though this show is a cartoon, it's meant for adults, hence its place in the Adult Swim lineup on the Cartoon Network. Younger kids will miss the sociological context that is critical to understanding both the humor and the insight in this cutting-edge show. The most potentially eyebrow-raising part of the show is the language. In nearly every episode there are multiple uses of the "N" word.
