    Editorial Reviews

An always engaging and frequently hilarious cop comedy, Blue Streak provides erstwhile sitcom star Martin Lawrence with his most satisfying big-screen showcase to date. He plays Miles Logan, a master thief who impersonates a cop in order to penetrate the police station where, several years prior, he hid a $17 million diamond just before getting carted off to prison. Logan's efforts to maintain a convincing front while searching for the hidden jewel generates the film's laughs. Director Les Mayfield (Encino Man) gives the star plenty of leeway, and Lawrence invests his swaggering, street-smart heist artist with the same brash manner and manic energy that first endeared him to TV audiences. Best of all, he lampoons the type of indestructible cop that's become a fixture in action movies; no cliché is left unspoofed. Shoot-outs and car chases pep things up, and the supporting players are uniformly fine, but Blue Streak is essentially pure, undistilled Martin Lawrence at his sparkling best.
