    Editorial Reviews

Massively hyped before its release, this high-concept, low-budget, mega-grossing indie horror film achieved instant cult status with its improvised performances, handheld cameras, and a savvy Internet marketing campaign that boosted the film's suspense quotient to the stratosphere. It's also one of the scariest movies of the '90s. The story chronicles the misadventures of three film students who get lost in the woods of Maryland while shooting a documentary about a legendary local witch. Cocky and full of Gen-X attitude when they start out, the trio quickly lose their cool as they are terrorized by the strange sounds and enigmatic offerings of an unseen predator. While The Blair Witch Project taps deftly into ancient fears about the evil that lurks in dark forests, it is also very much of the moment -- a cautionary tale about overzealous snoops with movie cameras. Better The Second Time Aroundby MasterOfAllusions

October 10, 2009: What can I say about this film that hasn't already been said? Well Like most of us who have seen this film there is a great devide; you either love it or hate it! I was one of the haters for numerous reasons. i.e. For being tricked into beleiving this was real, for feeling cheated out of my money and a lagit movie going experience, and the list goes on and on. And like most of us out there who felt this way I swore to never see, let alone spend another red cent on this film. Then one day while walking through my favorite electronics store, I just happen to pass the discount movie bin and what should I happen to find staring up at me? You got it, "The Blair Witch". I suddenly as from out of nowhere I felt compelled to pick it up and buy it. (Didn't hurt that I was bored and the thing was going for $4 bucks!) And so I did it, I went against my sworn oath and I bought The dreaded Blair Witch Project. Once I finally got home and looked at it I thought to myself, "What the hell were you thinking? You're never going to watch this!". And so I struggled for hours on whether or not to put it in the dvd player and subject myself to what I had ultimately doomed as the mind numbing torture of this horrific cinematic farse! Then I did it, I put it in, and I waited for the inevitable explosion of my brain. But, much to my surprise that didn't happen. Instead what did happen was that I found myself enjoying this, overly simple but rather creative suspense movie...Because that's what this is, a suspense movie, not a "HORROR". And by the end of it I actually did feel saticefied and admitedly rather uneasy. So my recomendation is if you hated The Blair Witch Project the first time, give it another try. And who knows maybe you'll be like me and like it better the second time around ;)

    I Also Recommend: 1408.

August 12, 2008: I first watched this on VHS and wow this was creepy and the ending was very haunting. I agree with another reviewer where its what you don't see that is scary since you imagine on what the witch could look like or those creepy kids that were trying to get in the tent. That part still creeps me out. Better to see it if you haven't seen it in a long time or are watching it for the first time. Honestly this is better than Cloverfield (no offense to anyone who likes it).
