Ranked 14th in TV Guide's list of the top 25 all-time cult favorites, Beauty and the Beast launched the first of its three seasons on September 25, 1987, on CBS. Putting a modern twist to the "beauty meets beast" fable, the series starred Linda Hamilton as corporate attorney and socialite Catherine Chandler, and Ron Perlman as the mysterious, lion-like creature Vincent. In the series opener "Once Upon a Time in the City of New York," Catherine is abducted by thugs after being mistaken for someone else while she walks through Central Park. After being beaten and having her face slashed, she's left for dead. Emerging from the safety of the tunnels beneath the city, Vincent rescues Catherine and tends her wounds. They discover that they share an empathic -- and eventually romantic -- bond, despite Vincent's initially frightening appearance. Because of this, he remains hidden in the world underneath the city, where he lives with his mentor, "Father" Jacob Wells (Roy Dotrice). Much of the credit for making the series into more than just a monster tale goes to Perlman, who brings Vincent to life despite heavy prosthetic makeup that obscures his actual features. Romantic, well written, and a thinly veiled analogy for acceptance in current society, Beauty and the Beast is both a love story and great dramatic television. Christina Urban, Barnes & Noble

October 01, 2009: This was one of my favorite showes of all time. It has some awesome extras with it. It has a lot of plot twists, and it doesn't always have a happy ending. It is very realistic. The actors are awesome. The stories are very believable. It appeals to my children as well. I don't have to worry about there being inappropriate content either. It is a great family show!

Return to the fantasy and wonder of one of the most romantic shows on television with Beauty and the Beast - Season 2. The cult favorite series continues to delight and inspire fans with its mythic tale of the adventures of Vincent (Ron Perlman), a noble man-beast, and Catherine (Linda Hamilton), a savvy district attorney, both of whom share an emotional bond that enables Vincent to sense whenever Catherine is in danger. Vincent lives in the underground world beneath New York City, where his gruesome looks are less important to his peers than his caring and benevolent personality. All 22 episodes of 1988-89's Season 2 are included on this six-disc set, and bonuses include video introductions to select episodes by Hamilton and Perlman.
In the powerful final season of Beauty and the Beast (1989-90), Catherine, pregnant with Vincent's child, falls victim to a murderous drug lord who steals her baby after she gives birth. Drawing strength from the everlasting love he and Catherine share, Vincent relentlessly pursues her killer, determined to bring him to justice and to rescue their child. A mold-breaking crime-drama with fantasy underpinnings, BatB features Ron Perlman as Vincent, a mythic, noble man-beast who develops a strong, mystical bond with Catherine (Linda Hamilton), a savvy assistant D.A. in New York. It was Hamilton's real-life pregnancy that led to the storyline that allowed her to exit the series, a move that alienated many fans and led to the show's premature demise.
