Editorial Reviews

A dynamic animated adventure based on the popular television series and classic character created by comic legend Bob Kane, Batman Beyond makes one thing clear at the outset: This is not your father's Caped Crusader. Under the direction of Curt Geda, Batman is extensively retooled for a new millennium. The story begins several decades into the future as an aging Bruce Wayne fears he is no longer capable of combating the criminal horde that overwhelms Gotham City's futuristic streets. Enter teenager Terry McGinnis, who accidentally discovers Batman's secret identity and convinces the Dark Knight to teach him in the ways of costumed crime fighters. His newly acquired skills augmented with the latest in Bat technology, Terry takes a detour from his suspected "Robin" function to don a streamlined Bat costume and battle evildoers as an updated Batman. Befitting current trends in adventure-oriented animation, this postmodern Batman is darker and more sinister in manner and appearance than the original. But younger viewers will still find his heroic adventures every bit as spellbinding. Ed Hulse, Barnes & Noble
