    Editorial Reviews

A sequel nearly 14 years in the making, Basic Instinct 2 gives Sharon Stone another whack at the character that -- with the mere crossing of her legs -- made Stone a bona fide superstar and an international sex symbol to boot. Her second outing as sexually voracious Catherine Tramell isn’t quite as provocative as the first one, but it offers the same heady mix of eroticism, deceit, and murder. The setting is now London, where the erotica-writing novelist finds herself once again suspected of homicide. Engaged by the police to discern Catherine’s mind-set, psychologist Michael Glass (David Morrissey) initially shrugs off the suspect’s provocative proposals but eventually succumbs to her charms, which draws him into a vortex of intrigue. Charlotte Rampling provides key support as Michael’s colleague, and David Thewlis impresses with his turn as a police detective obsessed with proving Catherine guilty. Ultimately, the film’s biggest asset is Stone herself, clearly relishing her role and looking just as ravishing as she did in the earlier film. Ed Hulse, Barnes & Noble

September 11, 2006: BASICALLY, it's Basic Instinct 1. The story line is weak and unbelievable. She's pulling the same scam with new victims. Don't waste your time with this one. Believe me. If you've seen Instinct 1, you've seen this before!
