Editorial Reviews

Ten years later, writer and director John Singleton returns to the South Central Los Angeles neighborhoods of his debut film Boyz 'N the Hood (1991). Tyrese Gibson stars as Jody, a jobless 20-year-old African-American man who has fathered two children by two different women, Yvette (Taraji P. Henson) and Peanut (Tamara LaSeon Bass), although he still lives with his 36-year-old mother Juanita (Adrienne-Joi Johnson). As Jody grapples with the increasing pressures of adult responsibility, he also contends with his troubled best friend Sweetpea (Omar Gooding) and new adversary Rodney (Snoop Doggy Dogg). Then there's his mother's live-in boyfriend Marvin (Ving Rhames), a reformed gangsta who agrees with Juanita that her son should grow up, move out, and move on. Karl Williams, All Movie Guide

June 13, 2006: Tyrese did a great job playing Jody as the lead character, Taraji Henson as the pressurized lover who bears Jody's baby also delivered excellent performances. She was so real and honest in her portrayal. There are so many sisters out there just like Yvette and she had delivered that role effortless. Ving "Marcellus" Rhames as a proud ex-old schooler who dates Jody's mom (watch for a very innovative stamina requiring squatting activity he and J's Mom performs...priceless) played his role naturally and convincing. Omar Gooding steals every scene he's in, he portrays Jody's cuz who's raging about his current life status, and what "lesson of life in da street." Now Snoop Dog was being Snoop Dog he appears in this film looking more evil as usual, hell, even Tupac did a cameo, sort of....

July 05, 2003: i loved this movie!!. every time it comes on i watch as if it was the first time i saw it. i loved every moment, my favorite part was the ending when tyrese and saraja were playing cards and they were engaged. i think that was the cutest part of the enire movie. i also love when tyrese was shirt less in the movie, just looking at his arms and chest made my knees go weak.
